Golden Delicious is ready to pick! Golden Delicious straight off the tree are a totally different apple than the store. Very crunchy and sweet. Great for eating, baking and applesauce. Golden Delicious was actually one of the favorites last year when we did an applesauce taste test with at least 100 people. Many people like to use them for making pies because they hold their shape well.
Other Apples Ready Now:
Jonagold, Ruby Jon, Ruby Mac, Melrose, Liberty, Jonathon and some Gala.
D'Anjou pears are ready now.
These come pre-picked. $8.00 for a small bucket (Holds about 10-11#).
D'Anjou pears you have to chill in the fridge for 4 weeks before they will ripen correctly. After you chill them, then you set them on the counter to ripen. To tell if they are ripe, you press your thumb into the neck of the pear and see if it gives a little. D' Anjou pears do not turn as yellow as a Bartlett when they are ripe so you have to go with the thumb test. If you just leave them on the counter, they will just rot instead of ripen if they are not pre-chilled.
Tomatoes:
Tomatoes are still going strong! The San Marzanos are beautiful and still loads of other nice Roma tomatoes out there. Still slicers available too. $0.75/lb
